THE HISTORY OF CWA LONG ISLAND FEDERAL CREDIT UNION
On February 3, 1977 seven members of CWA locals on Long Island requested that the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) approve an authorization certificate that in effect would create the CWA Long Island Federal Credit Union. The original field of membership encompassed the members of CWA locals 1104, 1106 and 1108 and their families.
The NCUA approved the authorization certificate on December 7, 1977 and issued Charter Number 22904 to the Credit Union. Soon thereafter CWA Locals 1109, 1105, 1110 and 1102 added their names to the charter and as of today the charter covers all members of the seven locals including their families and other persons of the members' households.
For the first few years the Credit Union shared office space with Local 1108. Eventually, as membership grew and more services were added, the Credit Union rented office space by itself. As the need arose, they moved to larger and larger quarters.
In 1994 the Credit Union purchased their own building where the main office is today in Ronkonkoma, Long Island, New York.
With continued growth a branch office was opened in Brooklyn in 1997 in the CWA Local 1109 building.
The Credit Union is a member-owned financial institution whose purpose it is to promote the financial well-being of it's members by providing comprehensive and progressive financial services in a personal and competitive manner.
The Board of Directors, management and the employees are committed to continue offering excellence in product quality and services while maintaining high standards of ethics and integrity.
